Trío Lepor, the winning group of the First Prize at the 17th International Chamber Music Competition of Arnuero (CIMCA 2019), gave an outstanding concert at the Centro Botín. Thanks to the collaboration of the Botín Foundation with the Music Competition, the winners—along with the cash prize of €1,500—are rewarded with a paid concert at the Centro Botín in Santander, within the “Creating Futures” programme of this organisation, which promotes young music talent.
Trío Lepor, formed by Aida Maldonado (piano), Marie-Helene Leonhardi (violin) and Nicola Pfeffer (cello), were the winners of CIMCA 2019, although their performance at the Centro Botín had to be postponed until 2021 due to the pandemic. In their concert, they offered with extraordinary interpretation a repertoire for a piano, violin and cello trio, consisting of landmark works, such as: the Trio op. 120 by the influential French composer Gabriel Fauré, written one year before his death (1924), is an expression of subtleties and harmonies that draw close to the poetic mysticism of chamber music; the Chamber Sonata for trio by the prolific and versatile German composer Hans Werner Henze, written in 1948 and revised in 1963, is a masterpiece developed in the form of a suite, like the old sonatas; finally, the programme included one of the great universal works: the first of the trios composed by Brahms in 1854 and revised in 1889, a work of great poetic and narrative scope that at times emulates the symphonic.
