The Arnuero Town Hall calls for the 19th International Chamber Music Competition.
The website and the online registration platform have already been updated, and registrations can be made from 1 February to 30 April.
CIMCA 2022 restores greater in-person participation by bringing back the qualifying audition phase prior to the Final, although it will be limited to a maximum of 8 groups. To facilitate maximum participation, the Competition will repeat the online selection phase by submitting videos in which the groups perform the repertoire submitted for the competition. During the month of May, the Jury will watch all the submitted videos and will carry out the first selection of 8 groups, which will then participate in person in the auditions prior to the Final, which only four groups will be allowed to access.
The competition also continues its commitment to contemporary composers, with the event starting again with the opening concert featuring the premiere of works by the competition-commissioned composers Mauricio Sotelo and Mario Carro, and the performance by the duo made up of Alejandro Saiz San Emeterio, violin, and Enrique Lapaz Lombardo, piano.
These will be the main dates to keep in mind:
REGISTRATION: 1 February to 30 April 2022. Documentation and a performance video must be provided.
PRESELECTION (non-in-person): May 2022. Using the same system as in 2021, the Jury will assess the videos without in-person meetings and will determine the groups (maximum 8) that will take part in the in-person final phase.
OPENING CONCERT: 8 July 2022. Arnuero. Church of Our Lady of the Assumption.
QUALIFYING AUDITIONS: 9 July 2022. (In person – Maximum 8 groups)
GRAND FINAL: 10 July 2022. (In person – Maximum 4 groups).
The qualifying auditions and the grand final will be held in an appropriate venue according to the health circumstances at the time, ensuring the safety of both participants and attendees at all times.
The Competition is endowed with the following prizes:
FIRST PRIZE: €1,500 and an acreditation diploma, plus a paid concert in the “Ciclo creando futuros” of the Centro Botín.
SECOND PRIZE: €1,000 and an acreditation diploma, plus a paid concert in the “Marcos Históricos” programme of the International Festival of Santander.
«Ricardo Hontañón» Prize: €500 and a diploma,
«Jesús de Monasterio» Prize for the most outstanding violinist: Diploma and Concert, sponsored by the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo.
Prize for the most outstanding Cantabrian group: Diploma and Concert at the Semana Inusual de la Música of the “Jesús de Monasterio” Music Conservatory of Santander.
The 17th CMCET has the collaboration of the International Festival of Santander, the Centro Botín, the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo, and the “Jesús de Monasterio” Music Conservatory. With these collaborations, the CMCET objective is completed: to serve as a platform for contestants to begin their musical careers by offering them concerts in the best chamber music venues in Cantabria.
The age limit for competing remains at 28 years, as it is considered to fit better with the goal of promoting young performers, understanding that by that age they will already have been able to receive the appropriate training so that, even as young people, they can become new leading figures in musical performance.
