The competition race Ecoparque Trail Gran Premio de Isla ran as normal and without any notable incidents, with victory in the women’s category going to Azara García de los Salmones, who secured her third title, and the surprise in the men’s overall standings, where local runner Breixo Balboa Ruigómez took victory over the big favourites.
The weather held throughout the weekend, with pleasant temperatures and mostly clear skies, so that the start of the event with the Luciérnagas Solidarias became a great party that began on Friday at 6 pm and ended close to midnight. On Saturday morning it was the turn of the youngest, with the participation of more than 60 boys and girls in the Peque Cincho, to finish in the afternoon with the race briefing, in which elite athletes took part such as the world champion several times Luis Alberto Hernando, Pablo Criado, a well-known Cantabrian ultra-endurance runner, or the visually impaired athlete Juan Fernández Llames, who was taking part for the third time in the Speed Trail.
Sunday dawned sunny, with temperatures slightly higher than usual, which took its toll on the participants due to the strain of dehydration. In any case, the list of retirements was small and people were able to enjoy a spectacular race that runs through some of Cantabria’s most emblematic landscapes, with the finish taking place along the cliffs of Isla until reaching the beaches of Quejo.
As for the sporting event, it kept its usual format from the last few years, offering a space for leisure, nature sport and solidarity, and standing out for providing alternatives for both high-level competition and beginners, and even family and solidarity events, such as the night-time Luciérnagas Solidarias, which kicks off a top-level, highly sought-after event with the public, and which this time has welcomed 55% of participants from outside Cantabria, so the municipality of Arnuero has experienced a great weekend ahead of Holy Week..
