After the pure experience of 2020 of experiencing Jazz in a unique cultural setting, among the old centuries-old stones of Isla’s Historic Quarter, in 2021 we set out on the journey towards an authentic festival, which we go on to call IslaJazz and which will feature 4 spectacular concerts by musicians of the very highest level, both national and international. Wednesday 4 August, 21:30. DUCHEMIN. Afrojazz and Brazilian Grooves, and original songs in Castilian. Duchemin’s compositions are a balance between poetry, danceable rhythms and sophisticated harmonies. This unusual mix of ingredients creates a genuine sound and identity, inviting you on a journey of the senses. 7 musicians from the international scene who have already taken part in major projects (Ketama, Gabacho Maroc, Diego Guerrero, Rosario la Tremendita, Jorge Pardo, Marina Sorin…).
Thursday 5 August, 21:30. CARLA SEVILLA and Andrezj Olecnizack (guest artist). Smooth Jazz Fussion. A modern sound but rooted in tradition, with which this band seeks a unique approach that can surprise the audience. The vocalist from Bilbao, Carla Sevilla, is a singing teacher and a degree-qualified pianist. In 2012 she completes her higher jazz studies at Musikene, specialising in vocal performance, at the Higher Music Centre of the Basque Country, receiving classes from Judy Niemack, Bob Sands, Perico Sambeat, Andrej Olejnizack, Deborah J. Carter, etc… Alongside her usual band Ramba, led by the man from Laredo Marcos Salcines (piano), Tana Santanas (double bass), Juanma Urriza (drums), she presents as guest artist Andrezj Olecnizack, one of the Polish saxophonists with the greatest international projection, with 60 records to his name.
Friday 6 August, 21:30. DIVAS OF SOUL. Soul, Black music from the 60s/70s. The most local band will feature a line-up of eleven musicians who will undoubtedly get the Isla audience vibrating with the best songs of Black music and the explosive soul of the sixties and seventies. Without a doubt, they will generate emotions with classic hits by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Etta James, Nina Simone and many more.
Saturday 7 August, 21:30. DAVID RUIZ. Flamenco Jazz, Afrojazz. David Ruiz presents at the Eco-park his album “Where we come from”, which brings together compositions developed, arranged and designed exclusively with the idea of conveying music. The music on this album is above all else and is very well performed, both by David and by the musicians who accompany him. You’ll find influences from jazz, rock, flamenco and music from North Africa. Sounds that mix and engage in dialogue—coming and going with total freshness and fluidity. A terrific band accompanying David, formed by Sayhan Fathy (percussion), Marcos Collado (guitar), Gabriel Peso (keyboards), Jorge Vistel (trumpet), Roberto Nieva (saxophone) and the special collaboration of Daniel Navarro (dancer).
