The 1st Wine Fair Costa de Cantabria promotes the local product on the Isle
A day after celebrating the 11th PImiento Fair on the Isle, the Arnuero Town Hall promoted the 1st Wine Fair Costa de Cantabria and the Artisan Cheese Fair, with notable success, both in terms of the participation of wineries and cheesemakers and the turnout of visitors, recording more than 3,000 attendees, and product sales, both in tastings and samples as well as product to take away.
This adventure began on Friday 15 September at the Casa de Mareas at the Trasmiera Eco-park, with the presentation of this first edition and a programme of talks and tastings that filled the expected capacity thanks to an attractive line-up of talks, tastings and food pairings.
18:00h. Presentation of the 1st Wine Fair Costa de Cantabria by Alfonso Fraile, President of the Asociación Sumelliers Cantabria.
–18:30h. “Origins and evolution of the wines of the Isle”, oenological talk with tasting. Victoria Torres, oenologist, and Jesús Sierra, Bodega and Viñedos Isla.
–19:00h. Round table “The future of the artisan local product”. Iván Pérez, Cheese Maker Siete Villas, Mikel Durán, Bodegas Vidular, José María Alonso Quesoba, and Asier Alonso, Bodega Sel D’Aiz. Tastings and pairings with IGP wines and artisan cheeses. The panel will be led by Alfonso Fraile.
The day arrived, with the understandable uncertainty on the part of the organisers regarding this new event, and the truth is that the objective was met with very good marks.
Great turnout, less early than the day before—which is understandable given the theme of the Fair—which was very lively between 11:30 and 15:00, and had an approximate participation of 3,000 people.
In addition to the wine producers from the IGP Costa de Cantabria, with 9 wineries present, and the artisan cheesemakers, with 7 cheeseries, the Fair also featured the farmers of the Isle, who took part again with their fantastic vegetables and peppers, along with some other producers who complemented the Fair’s offering.
The morning was also made lively by the 3rd Concurso de Ollas Ferroviarias, which provided the public with more than 1,000 tastings of white beans and caricos.
The Fair recorded significant product sales, as well as tastings and samples that were offered through the purchase of a cup with redeemable vouchers at the different producers’ stalls, both of wines and cheeses and of railway pots.
The IGP producers expressed their satisfaction with the organisation and the result of the event, considering that this is how the quality of the produce being created in Cantabria around wine and cheeses is promoted and brought to the spotlight.
