The website and the online registration platform have now been updated, and registrations can be made from 1 February to 30 April.
CIMCA 2023 restores a higher level of in-person participation by bringing back the qualifying audition phase prior to the Final, although this will be limited to a maximum of 8 groups. To facilitate maximum participation, the Competition will repeat the online selection phase by submitting videos in which the groups perform the repertoire presented for the Competition. During the month of May, the Jury will watch all the submitted videos and will carry out the first selection of 8 groups, who will then take part in person in the auditions prior to the Final, to which only four groups will be admitted.
The competition also continues to support contemporary composers, so it will once again begin with the opening concert featuring the premiere of the work by composer Ananda Sukarlan, commissioned by the Competition.
These are the main dates to keep in mind:
REGISTRATION: 1 February to 30 April 2022. Documentation and a performance video must be provided.
PRE-SELECTION (non in-person): May 2022. The Jury will assess the videos without in-person meetings and will determine the groups (maximum 8) that will take part in the in-person phase of qualifying auditions.
OPENING CONCERT: 30 June 2023. Arnuero. Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
QUALIFYING AUDITIONS: 1 July 2023. (In person – Maximum 8 groups)
GRAND FINAL: Casa de las Mareas (Soano) 2 July 2023. (In person – Maximum 4 groups).
The Competition is endowed with the following prizes:
FIRST PRIZE: 1,500 euros and an accreditation diploma, plus a paid concert in the “Creating Future” series at the Centro Botín.
SECOND PRIZE: 1,000 euros and an accreditation diploma, plus a paid concert in the “Marcos Históricos” programme of the International Santander Festival.
“Ricardo Hontañón” Prize: 500 euros and a diploma.
“Jesús de Monasterio” Prize for the most outstanding violinist: Diploma and Concert, sponsored by the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo.
Prize for the most outstanding Cantabrian group: Diploma and Concert at the Semana Inusual de la Música of the Conservatorio de Música “Jesús de Monasterio” in Santander.
The XX CMCET has the collaboration of the International Santander Festival, the Centro Botín, the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo and the Conservatorio de Música Jesús de Monasterio. With these collaborations, the objective of the CMCET is fulfilled: to serve as a platform for competitors to begin their musical careers by offering them concerts on the best chamber music stages in Cantabria.
The age limit for competing remains at 28 years, as it is considered to better align with the objective of promoting young performers: by that age they have already received the appropriate training so that, even while still young, they can establish themselves as new values in musical interpretation.
