Once again, the Arnuero Town Hall calls for the International Chamber Music Competition of Arnuero (CIMCA 2024), which in its twenty-second edition will feature an improved programme of very high quality. The website and the online registration platform are already being updated, and registrations can be made from 1 February to 30 April.
The CIMCA 2025 will keep the double selection process: an initial online phase to select finalist groups through the videos sent by them, and a second in-person phase with qualifying auditions and the big Final, to which a limited number of four groups will have access. During the month of May, the Jury will view all the submitted videos and will carry out the first selection of 8 groups, which will already take part in person in the final phase.
The CIMCA 2025 will be accompanied by a spectacular programme, which makes this event a unique occasion in the world of chamber music.
On Saturday 28 June, at the Casa de las Mareas, a tribute concert will be held for the Cantabrian composer Miguel Ángel Samperio, on the 25th anniversary of his passing. The concert will be performed by Lajer Dúo, and the programme will include the re-performance of the work “Diez comentarios irónicos a una idea musical”.
One week later, on Friday 4 July, the Casa de Mareas de Soano will host the Opening Concert, which on this occasion will offer the premiere of the work “Cuarteto del Amor Eterno op.181”, composed by Antonio Noguera Guinovart on commission from the Competition. The concert will be performed by Maria del Mar Fernández Doval, soprano, Ana Gobantes de Miguel, piano, Belén Puerto Moreda, viola and Pablo Ventosa Puras, flute. Next, the running order for the participating groups in the final phase of the Competition will be drawn by lot.
On Saturday 6 July, the qualifying auditions will take place at the Casa de las Mareas, and on Sunday 7 July the big Final will be held in the same venue.
These will be the main dates to keep in mind:
- REGISTRATION: 1 February to 30 April 2025. Documentation and a performance video must be provided.
- PRE-SELECTION (non in-person): May 2025. The Jury will evaluate the videos without in-person meetings and will determine the groups (maximum 8) that will take part in the in-person phase of the qualifying auditions.
- TRIBUTE CONCERT M.A. SAMPERIO. 28 June 2025, 8pm. Casa de las Mareas (Soano).
- OPENING CONCERT AND PREMIERE OF THE WORK: 5 July 2024, 8pm. Casa de las Mareas (Soano).
- QUALIFYING AUDITIONS: 6 July 2024. (In-person – Maximum 8 groups)
- BIG FINAL: Casa de las Mareas (Soano) 7 July 2024, 6pm. (In-person – Maximum 4 groups).
One of the most significant changes is the improvement to the prize allocation, thanks to the sponsorship of the luthier LVS by Laurent López, and to the agreement with the Fundación Caja Cantabria, which will sponsor a concert at CASYC for the most outstanding Cantabrian group; with the prizes as follows:
FIRST PRIZE: €3,000 and an accreditation diploma, plus a remunerated concert in the “Ciclo creando futuros” at the Centro Botín.
SECOND PRIZE: €2,000 and an accreditation diploma, plus a remunerated concert in the programme “Marcos Históricos” of the International Festival of Santander.
“Ricardo Hontañón” Prize: €1,000 and a diploma,
“Jesús de Monasterio” Prize for the most outstanding violinist: Diploma and Concert, sponsored by the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo.
Prize for the most outstanding Cantabrian group: Diploma and Concert in the Unusual Week of Music at the Conservatory of Music “Jesús de Monasterio” in Santander, and a remunerated concert at CASYC of the Fundación Caja Cantabria.
The XXII International Chamber Music Competition of Arnuero will once again include the Centro Botín, the International Festival of Santander, the Real Sociedad Menéndez Pelayo and the Conservatory of Music Jesús de Monasterio, and the Fundación Caja Cantabria. With these collaborations, the goal of the CMCET is fulfilled: to serve as a platform for the contestants to kick-start their musical careers by offering them concerts in the best chamber music venues in Cantabria.
The age limit to compete remains at 28 years, as it is considered to fit better the aim of promoting young performers, understanding that at that age they will already have been able to receive the appropriate training so that, even while young, they can establish themselves as new figures in musical performance.
