A composition by Ananda Sukarlan will be premiered in tribute to Juan de Castillo
As is tradition, the competition will begin with the masterful opening concert, on Friday 30 June, featuring the world premiere of the work “Castillo Reconstruido”, composed by Ananda Sukarlan on commission from the organisers, in tribute to the universal architect Juan de Castillo.
On Saturday 1st, the qualifying auditions will take place at the House of the Tides in Soano, for which ten groups have registered, three of them from abroad. The most striking feature this year will be the participation of a group of two pianos. Lastly, on Sunday 2 at 6pm, the House of the Tides will host the grand final with the four groups the Jury determines as finalists, and the awards ceremony will be held.
PROGRAMME
OPENING CONCERT 2023
Friday, 30 June, 8:00 pm.
Church of the Assumption of Arnuero.
The opening concert will present the premiere of the work composed by Ananda Sukarlan on commission from the Competition, and which will be performed together with other members of the Jury. Ananda’s work has been written for four instruments—piano, cello, accordion, and clarinet—with a particularity regarding its layout, since each of them will occupy a different space within the church, thereby seeking harmonic complicity with the acoustics of the church vaults in Arnuero.
With this work, the Arnuero Town Hall pays tribute to the work of Juan de Castillo, from Arnuero, on the occasion of the commemorative events for the 550th anniversary of his birth, and who is one of the most universal architects of the 15th and 16th centuries, as is evidenced by the UNESCO World Heritage declaration of five of his works, among which the Jerónimos Monastery of Belém in Lisbon stands out.
