The Town Hall of Arnuero took part in the Subsidy Order issued by the General Directorate for Biodiversity, the Environment and Climate Change for activities in the area of influence of the Network of Protected Areas, submitting the project entitled “Restoration and Improvement of Public-Use Facilities in Marisma Joyel” for an amount of close to €35,000, and which in February 2021 received funding of €30,000 from the regional Ministry.
The main purpose of the project is to renew all the wooden bridges and footbridges that allow the Marisma Joyel route to be carried out safely, serving as access to the Molino de Santa Olaja. These facilities, which had been built around 2004 by the then Governing Board of the Natural Reserve, had been repaired by the Town Hall on several occasions in small sections, but after so many years they were presenting serious safety problems because sections of the posts and joists had rotted due to their exposure to flooding and the effects of bad weather. For this reason, there were many sections of footbridges that could not be repaired with sufficient reliability and safety for users, since there was a definite risk that at some point they might fail and cause an accident.
With this project, the aim is to restore all these elements and improve other aspects such as waymarking, the parking area, and, in general, all the elements that guarantee users’ safety and enhance the visit experience.
The works recently started will be carried out in two phases: the first, which will take place during the month of June and will address the most important issues for visitor safety during the summer, and the second, which will complete the project from September onwards, covering the smaller detail and beautification aspects of lesser significance.
