Jonanthan Arobes and Azara García de los Salmones secure victory in an Ecoparque Trail with an extremely high standard of runners.
A great sporting weekend has been experienced in Isla, with the celebration of the six events that made up the X Trail Ecoparque de Trasmiera. On Friday, with 250 participants, the third edition of the Luciérnagas Solidarias began with the aim of raising funds for the Asociación Buscando Sonrisas. Saturday was the turn of the youngsters, who on a day that was a bit rainy made the traditional climb to Monte Cincho in two categories, the classic PequeCincho for the youngest and the CronoCincho for teenagers and adults. That same afternoon, the tribute party for the Volunteers was held, which over these ten years has made possible the celebration and growth of this major sporting event.
And yesterday Sunday, this sporting event brought together nearly a thousand athletes across its three categories, Slow Nature Trail, non-competitive, with 300 participants, the Speed Trail, the shortest distance, with 120 participants, and finally the Ecoparque Trail Gran Premio de Isla, which featured 400 athletes, among whom stood out the participation of the European champion, the World runner-up, and a six-time Spanish champion Azara García de los Salmones.
It was the runner from Corrales who ultimately took victory, defending the title she had already won in 2016. Azara led the race from the start, although she had to overcome muscular difficulties in the final third of the event. In second place came Mayka Bueno Villasur, the winner in 2020, completing the female lineup with Nerea Iturriaga, who also had a victory in Ecoparque Trail in 2020.
The day began rainy, but soon a south wind took over, putting an end to the rain and bringing about high temperatures that made the event very tough as the ground became extremely muddy due to the rain from the previous night.
As for the men, victory went to Jonathan Arobes, in a close contest with Borja Fernández, with Héctor Sánchez finishing a little further behind.
The main event, Ecoparque GP Isla, proved tough, and the participants struggled to reach the finish line, with 27 km. very muddy and temperatures that throughout the day kept rising due to the sun and the south wind.
The day ended without serious incidents, consolidating itself as one of the flagship events of the North, and with a great atmosphere at the final popular meal at the Isla sports track, where the trophy presentation was also carried out.
