A composition by Ananda Sukarlan will be premiered in homage to Juan de Castillo
As is traditional, the competition will kick off with the splendid opening concert on Friday 30 June, where the world premiere of the work “Castillo Reconstruido” will take place. It has been composed by Ananda Sukarlan by commission of the organisers, in homage to the universal architect Juan de Castillo.
On Saturday 1, the qualifying auditions will be held at the Casa de las Mareas in Soano, for which ten ensembles have registered, three of them from abroad. The most striking feature this year will be the participation of an ensemble of two pianos. Lastly, on Sunday 2 at 18:00, the Casa de las Mareas will host the grand final with the four ensembles that the Jury appoints as finalists, and the awards ceremony will take place.
PROGRAMME
OPENING CONCERT 2023
Friday, 30 June, 20:00 h.
Church of the Assumption of Arnuero.
The opening concert will present the premiere of the work composed by Ananda Sukarlan by commission of the Competition, and which will be performed alongside other members of the Jury. Ananda’s work has been written for four instruments, piano, cello, accordion and clarinet, with a special feature regarding its layout: each of them will occupy a different space within the church, thus seeking harmonic complicity with the sound of the church vaults at Arnuero.
With this work, the Arnuero Town Hall pays tribute to the work of Juan de Castillo, a native of Arnuero, on the occasion of the commemorative events for the 550th anniversary of his birth. He is one of the most universal architects of the 15th and 16th centuries, as is shown by the UNESCO World Heritage declaration for five of his works, among which the Monastery of the Jerónimos in Belém, in Lisbon, stands out.
